Do I need psychiatric care or psychological care?
Though often used interchangeably, psychiatry and psychology are different. Psychiatry is a branch of medicine, and psychiatric services offered at BlueSky Telepsych focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. BlueSky’s psychiatry professionals have the authority to prescribe medication. Psychology professionals, often called therapists, are trained to diagnose and treat mental health conditions through the use of evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). While their education, training, and treatment methods may differ, every provider at BlueSky is equipped to meet the widely varied needs of our clients.
Three signs you should seek mental health care.
1. You’ve started to wonder if you’re experiencing the “normal” amount of stress, low mood, or distractibility.
a. Struggling with anxiety, depression, poor concentration, lack of motivation, irritability, fatigue, poor sleep, anger, or any number of other mental health concerns can reduce a person’s quality of life. Left untreated, these symptoms can result in decreased work performance, relationship trouble, financial problems, and even serious health conditions like obesity and heart disease.
2. You feel less productive.
a. You used to be able to knock out a full day of work, get some exercise, and spend time with your friends and family with no problem. Now you struggle to get everything on your list done before collapsing on the couch to scroll through social media and eat takeout. What happened? Everyone gets tired after a long day, but now it feels like you’re falling further and further behind on activities you used to enjoy.
3. You want to talk to someone about your concerns, but you don’t want to be judged.
a. Despite huge strides in understanding and treating things like ADHD, anxiety, and depression, there still exist social stigmas toward mental health. Today, you can find expert, nonjudgmental care from the privacy of your home using a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

What does BlueSky Telepsychiatry specialize in treating?
Whether you decide that talk therapy or medication is right for you, BlueSky Telepsych’s compassionate, licensed professionals can help address these common mental health concerns:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD) – this disorder affects an individual’s ability to remain focused on a task, learn or remember information, regulate their emotions, or control impulses. ADHD is a learning disorder, but it does not indicate low intelligence.
Depression – this term refers to a wide range of mental health concerns and is characterized by a low mood (feeling “blue”), loss of pleasure or enjoyment, and associated emotional, physical, or behavioral symptoms such as being tired, tearful, irritable, having worsening pain, or withdrawing socially.
Anxiety – several disorders including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, and phobias fall into the category of anxiety. Characterized by excessive and persistent fear, anxiety disorders involve an emotional response to a real or perceived threat. For example, a person with OCD may wash their hands excessively due to a fear of illness or contamination.
PTSD or Post-traumatic stress disorder – after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event or set of circumstances, a person’s wellbeing may be affected physically, emotionally, or mentally. Reliving the event, trouble remembering, disturbing thoughts or feelings, nightmares, detachment, or feelings of sadness or detachment may last long after the traumatic experience has passed.
Bipolar Disorder – often misunderstood, bipolar disorder is characterized by changes in a person’s mood, levels of energy, and their ability to function. Episodes of extreme happiness or irritability can alternate with periods of deep sadness and depression that can negatively impact behavior, social interactions, and completing daily routines like work, school, or self-care.
Addiction and Substance Use Disorders – these disorders involve the misuse of substances such as opiates, alcohol, cocaine, cannabis, and methamphetamine. They are characterized by consuming more of the substance than intended, difficulty cutting back or quitting, cravings for the substance, or facing consequences as a result of using the substance. Consequences of addiction or abuse of substances may include trouble at work or in relationships, financial worries, or legal problems.
The providers at BlueSky Telepsych have achieved high levels of education, training, and licensing in order to address these conditions and many others. You don’t have to go it alone. Connect with our team, and you’ll see the blue skies ahead!
