I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. I began my career in the mental health field as a Registered Nurse in 2005 after obtaining my Associate Degree in Nursing. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South University in 2010 and my Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 2013. As a PMHNP I have worked in outpatient, PHP, IOP, inpatient and residential settings across four states and have worked with patients ages 4 to 90 from all walks of life. I have experience treating a variety of mental health disorders including but not limited to depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and substance use disorders through medication management and supportive therapy techniques.
I understand that finding a new provider is not always easy, especially when talking about things that can be uncomfortable and require vulnerability. I admire the strength it takes to make the first appointment, whether it is seeing a mental health provider for the first time, changing providers or trying to find the right fit. I believe one of the most important things in the patient-provider relationship is that the patient feels heard, and I strive to have every patient know they are heard and that their words and feelings are valid. These appointments are for you and about you.. My goal is to work together as a team, in an honest, empathetic, safe and non-judgmental space to develop the right treatment plan for you and help you achieve your desired outcomes and goals.
My process for working with patients starts with an initial evaluation in which we will discuss your current symptoms/stressors as well as your history (psychiatric, medical, medication, family, etc.) and your goals for treatment. We will also develop a treatment plan and schedule a follow up appointment before the end of the first appointment. Follow up appointments are shorter than initial evaluations and during those appointments we will discuss your response to treatment, assess current symptoms, address questions and concerns and make modifications to the treatment plan as needed. Initially, follow-up appointments may be scheduled more frequently if starting or changing a medication. At times other factors may warrant more frequent check-ins and patients are always encouraged to contact me if they need a sooner appointment.
